Memories of Old Shanghai in Taipei Exhibition
To celebrate the 100th birthday of the Futai Street Mansion, Taipei City Government Department of Cultural Affairs has joined hands with the management team of Futai Street Mansion to organize the “Memories of Old Shanghai in Taipei” Exhibition at the building. During the opening ceremony of the exhibition, 11 young ladies from colleges and universities were invited to walk down the catwalk to the melody of old Shanghai music wearing classical qipao (Chinese dresses), which were provided by collectors from Hong Kong and mainland China. A glamorous collection of hand stitched qipao from different eras highlights the theme of old Shanghai memories. The sign of “Greater Shanghai Bathhouse” – the last of the Shanghai-style public bath in Chengzhong Market – is also on display at the exhibition. A number of private collectors and stores with Shanghai origins also contributed to the exhibition, including the old radio set from Café Astoria Bakery and rare photographs by photographers Teng Nan-kuang and Lee Ming-tiao.
