World Down Syndrome Day Event Raises Public Awareness
Mayor Hau Lung-bin and actor Eddie Peng appeared at the Children’s Day celebration for kids with Down syndrome and the World Down Syndrome Day Press Conference on March 28.
According to Hau, March 21 has been designated the World Down Syndrome Day by Down syndrome organizations around the world. He remarked that the special day is very close to Children’s Day (April 4) in Taiwan and hopes this will help raise public awareness on children with Down syndrome and support for their families.
The mayor stressed that the kids touched by Down syndrome is not only innocent and pure-at-heart, but they also demonstrate a strong sense of determination that matches their counterparts.
He pointed out that Taipei City Government has offered help to individuals with Down syndrome through the promotion of shelter factories. Through the help provided by these institutions, individuals affected by Down syndrome find work at places like gas stations, coffee shops, and restaurants.
The guests at the press conference watched the performances by kids with Down syndrome and the students of EXPG Dance and Vocal School’s Taipei branch school. The mayor handed out gifts to the kids after the performance, wishing them happy Children’s Day.
