Outstanding Diners Honored at Award Ceremony
On August 2, Mayor Hau Lung-bin attended the Taipei Trendy Restaurants Award Ceremony, honoring local restaurants with outstanding cuisines. The event was organized by the city government’s Department of Economic Development and Taipei City Office of Commerce.
He remarked that the city’s delicious cuisines have overtaken the appeal of the National Palace Museum as the top factor that attracts tourists to Taipei. According to the mayor, dominating the taste buds of the crowd is the best way to charm them. He urges restaurant owners and chefs to capture the hearts of international tourists when they come to Taiwan for the 2010 Taipei International Flora Expo.
He said he would tell his international friends that Taipei is a place where they can try out new diners on a daily basis for an entire month; they will not repeat themselves while enjoying quality cuisine for every meal.
As a part of the plan to boost local tourism, Taipei City Government is working on a “Map of Outstanding Cuisines,” which allows tourists to find their preferred cuisines and restaurants with ease.
The award recipients include a number of popular restaurants in Taipei, such as Tien Hsiang Lo, Paris 1930, Peony Japanese Cuisine, L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon, Shanghai Shanghai, and Din Tai Fung.
