The press conference announcing the achievements of “Taipei Beautiful” project’s first series took place at Taipei 101 on January 14. Mayor Hau Lung-bin presided over the ceremony and discussed the project’s role in encouraging the construction of landmark and environmental-friendly buildings, helping to improve the city’s landscape.
Among the 11 construction projects participating in the first series of “Taipei Beautiful”, two cases – the Chinatrust Financial Square project and Cheng Mei Minsheng Renovation project – qualify for the “gold level” certificates of Green Building Candidacy, while nine other cases are expected to win the “silver level” certificates.
The mayor remarked that the revitalization of the Tamsui River and implementation of urban renovations are major objectives for his administration. Through the “Taipei Beautiful” Project, he hopes to achieve the goal of transforming Taipei into a city characterized by “rivers, technology, and people”.
According to Hau, the 11 cases of “Taipei Beautiful” project’s first series will help save 16,000,000 KWH of electricity each year – roughly 60 percent of city hall’s annual electricity consumption. Upon completion, these projects will also help cut carbon emission by 35,700 metric tons. In addition, the plans will create 17,900 work opportunities and attract investments reaching NT$125 billion.
Commissioner of Urban Development Ding Yuh-chyurn pointed out that six of the cases are urban renovation projects while five are new development projects. Administrative districts including Zhongshan, Xinyi, Zhongzheng, Daan, Songshan, and Shilin will likely benefit from the urban renewal efforts.
