Student Play Competition Explores Conservation Themes

To familiarize students with environmental protection concepts and strengthen conservation/environmental education, the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) held a play competition for high school and vocational school students spotlighting environmental protection concepts on December 30.
Since the first competition in 2004, the event has attracted many participants from schools across the city. A total of 22 high schools and vocational schools took part in this year’s competition, including Taipei First Girls High School, Muzha Vocational High School, and Wanfang High School.
The themes for the 2009 competition featured “Clean and Tidy: Beautifying Taipei, My Hometown,” “LOHAS Taipei, Revitalizing the Tamsui River,” “Operation Low Carbon Emission and Energy Conservation,” and more.
The department invited seven experts in the field of play and drama to serve as jury members for the event, including Workshop in Heaven Performance Group Director Yan Mei-jen and Director Sun Chen-chieh of Puppet Beings Theater Company, as well as representatives from Godot Theatre Company and Ifkids Theater Company.
Taipei Municipal Zhongshan Girls High School won first place in the competition, claiming the gold medal and the award money of NT$20,000; the second and third place awards went to Fuxing Senior High School and Dazi High School, respectively.
