Celebrating the 5th Anniversary of Taipei Artist Village

Taipei Artist Village
Taipei Mayor Ma Ying-jeou attended the 5th anniversary of Taipei Artist Village (TAV) on October 12. Also present were the Department of Cultural Affairs (DOCA) Commissioner Sebastian Liao and Quanta Computer President Lin Bai-li, who was an initial contributor of the organization. The current TAV is housed in a former public office building for the Maintenance Engineer Public Works Department. The DOCA reclaimed the vacant building and transformed it into the first international artist village in Taiwan, following in the footsteps of other cities such as New York, Paris, and London. During his address, Ma pointed out that Shintaro Ishihara, the Governor of Tokyo, Japan was deeply impressed and inspired after visiting TAV. Since his visit, he has also established an artist village in Tokyo. Mayor Ma expressed his deepest gratitude to those who have contributed to TAV. Their consistent dedication and endeavor have far exceeded his expectation. Five years after launching on October 12, 2001, TAV has attracted more than 140 foreign and 60 local artists from different disciplines and all levels of professional development. These individuals came together as a community with one single mission, to have the freedom and venue for innovation in the making of visual art, music, literature, and performing art. TAV, a foundation that foster the integration of inspirational artists from around the world, was formerly managed by Dimension Endowment of Art and Taipei National University of the Arts until Taipei City Culture Foundation took over the management in May 2004.
