Kuo Hua Life Insurance Donates 300 Vests to Recyclable Material Collectors
The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) presented a certificate of gratitude to Kuo Hua Life Insurance during a ceremony on December 8, thanking the company for donating 300 vests to recyclable material collectors in Taipei.
The agency noted that thanks to the efforts of residents, sanitation workers, and recyclable material collectors, Taipei’s recycling rate has achieved the 44-percent mark.
Despite their contribution to our society and our environment, there are individuals who regard recyclable material collectors as peripheral peoples and the ones responsible for generating garbage.
To change this negative stereotyping, the central government’s Environmental Protection Administration has worked with DEP to recreate the image of recyclable material workers. Measures include asking companies/non-government groups to donate equipments/outfits to recyclable material collectors; to help renovate the surroundings of licensed recycling stations in the neighborhood; and to set up more recycling stations in communities, creating more jobs for these workers.
DEP calls upon private companies and business to join the initiative and help boost the image of recyclable material collectors. In addition, the agency hopes residents could show their support for the campaign and recognize the role and contribution of these workers.
