The 31st Disability Cheerleading Competition and Community-Wide Disaster Preparedness Fair

The First District HQs of Taipei City Fire Department, in collaboration with the Sports and Leisure Services for the Disabled, R.O.C. and the Taipei City Association for the Promotion of Services for the Disabled, will co-host “The 31st Disability Cheerleading Competition and Community-Wide Disaster Preparedness Fair” on Sunday, May 25, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Democracy Boulevard Plaza of the National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall.

The “Dancing Notes of Life – Disability Cheerleading Competition” is a national event designed for students and trainees with intellectual disabilities from various schools and special education institutions. Through this competition, participants can showcase their talents on stage, build self-confidence, and allow the public to gain a better understanding and acceptance of individuals with intellectual disabilities.

The Taipei City Fire Department has intentionally partnered with the Disability Cheerleading Competition for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities to highlight the daily difficulties and unique challenges faced by individuals with intellectual disabilities. Through this collaboration, the fire department hopes to foster greater public understanding and empathy.

Just as these individuals encounter obstacles in everyday life, they are also particularly vulnerable during disasters. The Fire Department urges families to prepare for emergencies based on the specific daily and special needs of each household member. This includes stocking up on essential items such as food, water, medications, diapers, and other personal necessities.

To reinforce this message, a Disaster Preparedness Experience Zone will be set up at the event. This zone will feature a variety of interactive booths, including “Disaster Prevention Apps: Grab All the Knowledge You Need,” “Lithium Battery Safety,” “CPR and AED Operation Experience,” and “Install Smoke Detectors for Home Safety,” etc. These booths will offer hands-on experiences for both participants and visitors, helping everyone learn practical preparedness skills while fostering empathy and connection with people with disabilities.

For many years, the fire department has been continuously innovating, creating various disaster preparedness e-books to provide citizens with learning materials on disaster prevention. These include the "Disaster Preparedness Taipei" manual, as well as easy-to-read booklets such as "What to Do When an Earthquake Strikes," "What to Do When a Typhoon Strikes," "What to Do When a Fire Breaks Out (Fire Prevention Guide)," and "What to Do When a Fire Breaks Out (Evacuation and Escape Guide)." These resources will be featured at the fair’s guided reading booth to help both individuals with disabilities and the general public improve their emergency response capabilities.

Taipei City has won the top spot in the "2024 County and City Overall and Sustainable Competitiveness Survey" by Global Views Monthly for the fourth consecutive time, and ranked first among the six metropolitan cities in "Public Safety and Firefighting," reflecting outstanding achievements in disaster prevention education. These accomplishments are rooted in meticulous attention to detail and consistent public engagement. The Fire Department warmly invites all citizens to visit the fair, enjoy interactive booths, win fun prizes, and take home essential disaster preparedness knowledge—to better protect our families, communities, and lives.
