[2010 Shanghai World Expo] EP Delegation Visits Taipei Pavilion
A delegation comprising members of the European Parliament (EP) paid a visit to Taipei Pavilion at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo on May 27.
Crescenzio Rivellini, the head of the MEP delegation, led the 25-member group on the tour. During the visit, Taipei Pavilion Curator Chen Ching-an served as the guide for the distinguished guests. The staff from the City’s Department of Information Technology and the Department of Environmental Protection briefed the members of the delegation on the exhibition in English.
Following the presentation, Rivellini said he is impressed with Taipei’s achievements in waste reduction, recycling, and the City’s wireless broadband network.
The head of the delegation showed a particular interest in how the city government promoted the “No Garbage on the Ground” and the “Per-bag Waste Collection Fee” policies to Taipei’s residents. He also inquired about the collective actions taken by the staff from the city agency, community members, school personnel, and the media to persuade residents to support the waste recycling and sorting policies.
Due to the tight schedule, not every EP member was able to attend the hands-on session at the “Interactive Area”. The members promised to make time for a second trip to the Taipei Pavilion before wrapping up their stopover.
